In 1997, the childhood playmates pooled their expertise - Jimmy is a civil engineer, Billy is an electronics engineer and Tommy’s expertise is in sales and marketing - to form Holevas & Holton Custom Home Builders. Today, the firm meticulously crafts about a dozen high-end homes each year. “We specialize in residences starting at 4,000-plus square feet and priced from the $700’s and up,” Tommy explains. “We also work in lot of different architectural styles.”
When it comes to their custom homes, the trio credits their ability to truly listening to their clients’ needs as their main strength. People choose a builder who is easy to talk to. We always indeed, as a builder to have close communication and accessibility to producing a home that truly reflects a clients’ needs.
We meet with a client and take the time to determine what they need and want, and we try to get to a point where everyone is on the same page,” Tommy says. “We don’t want them to have any unpleasant surprises, so from the very beginning, we make sure we’re on the same page as far as allowances.” Couple that accessibility with their strong work ethic - “we’re hands on and on the job site daily,” Tommy says - and a dedication to quality craftsmanship and you have a firm that has been winning rave reviews in a variety of neighborhoods.

Brad Bullock and Jay Barham, the owners of Kingdom Builders, joined forces years ago to form one of the best and most unique building partnerships in the region. They pride themselves on crafting the highest quality homes, with unique character and ideas that are both practical and functional. Much of this is made possible because Kingdom Builders crafts its own custom kitchen and bath cabinets and staircases, which means the quality of these important items is assured. "Cabinetry can be a real challenge, and not relying on outside sources, means we have control over both quality and delivery," says Jay. "When you get Kingdom Builders, you get attention to every detail. And, you get a company that listens and is accessible to each and every family it serves."
When Brad and his wife Angela were looking for a home of their own, he and Jay decided to start their own company. "We looked at dozens of homes and just couldn’t find the detail and quality at the price we were seeking," says Brad. "Jay and I met through a mutual friend from church. I just decided that my family wasn't going to find the home we wanted unless we built it ourselves. So Jay and I decided right then to form Kingdom Builders which in the name itself holds us accountable. This company was born from a urge to build the finest quality homes anywhere!" Brad and Jay are family men; Brad and Angela have two children, and Jay and his wife Jennifer have three children. Happy homes for happy homebuilders.

Matt Ewers is the President and Principal of Grandfather Homes. As a native of Charlotte, Ewers is proud of his upbringing in this fast growing building industry. While his grandfather was the inspiration for the company, his father was also instrumental in his younger years by sharing his work from his architectural firm. He initially studied in that field but grew to enjoy the leadership of actual homebuilding. An enlistment in the Marine Corps was also advantageous, as it gave him core values such as commitment, initiative, and determination- not to mention the satisfaction of enduring hard work. Ewers finished his undergraduate studies with a degree in Construction Management from East Carolina University and set out for the next several years as a superintendent and then general manager for a national and regional home builder. From there, he realized he had incurred the entrepreneur spirit and was fortunate enough to start up Grandfather Homes, Inc. Grandfather Homes builds in the Charlotte, NC area and possesses an Unlimited Building License in North and South Carolina.
Ewers and his wife, Gretchen live in Charlotte and enjoy the company of their three dogs, Nelly, Clyde, and Pippen.
